The purpose and need for this project...
is to improve the pavement conditions, provide ADA access, improve storm drainage and improve aesthetics through the historic district.
The scope of work consists of improvements to South Church Street beginning at Luter Drive and heading east along South Church Street for approximately 2,500 feet and ending at a point approximately 1,300 feet east of Jericho Road. The improvements include paving, curb and gutter, sidewalk, construction of a small parking lot, storm drainage, private entrances, street lighting layout, crosswalks, and aesthetic improvements to include landscaping and pavers. The improvements are in accordance with Town and VDOT standards.
The project has been reviewed by numerous agencies, including the Virginia Department of Historical Resources, Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation Division of Natural Heritage, Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and the Town of Smithfield. No adverse impacts have been identified.
